What I understood rather early, is that many of the fonts are homemade, and handpainted, so they dont belong to ne specific typeface family. About half of the signs actually used unidentified typefaces, and atleast 90 % of the ones that used typefaces used diferent typefaces, so there is a wide range of diferent styles going on. In general it semed that the church of england were the most consistent in useage of serifs, while the other churches used both.
Serifs were also in general slightly more normal then san serifs.
